Internal Storm
Rusted iron conch, beacon, bulb and electric motor
250x160x 160cm
2009
The installation is an enlarged conch whose skeleton is made of steel rods and covered with thin steel plates. It imitates the spiral structure of the inside of a real conch. The upper half of the conch's skeleton is not covered completely with steel plates, so viewers can see its internal structure. The internal space of the big conch is filled with water and there is a motor-driven propeller to stir. The spiral inner wall of the conch gradually reduces the power of water, so the surface of the water near the opening of the conch remains calm, on which floats a model of a wooden beacon. |
