Landscapes 1999
Two face to face reflections are shown. One reflection is about the same scenery with different people taking pictures and flickers in high speed; one the opposite side, the artist is in different scenes in the world and the scenes are constantly going around and are covered gradually. One side indicates the same scene with different people and the other indicates the same person with different backgrounds. The two creates a antithesis of the Chinese couplet and also expresses the Sinitic sentiment.
In the video-installation in title "Landscape", Two face to face monitors are shown. The two creates a antithesis of the Chinese couplet and also expresses the Sinitic sentiment about how a person in existence in the world. ~{R;~} fluky, unpredictable and the transformation, must be accepted as the fate of human being, as well as the nature of the world. Sometimes people travel in the world one by one, generation by generation, the subjects are always change, only the scene still exist there as a arena, looks like forever there. But on the other side, in the memory of the subject, the different scenes just short vision coming and going one by one. The couplet, is a important form in Chinese literature and visual culture-in the poem, in design, in the pattern of architecture, the most typical form is the calligraphy on red paper, put on the two sides besides the door.
In this video-installation I rebuild the tradition form and give it a new meaning on how to use a image of new medial.
