Concept: The branches of a plant stretch out in the air, avoiding each other, while the roots extend in the soil, capillaries spread within the body, rivers form delta fans at the estuary, corals build reefs underwater, and lightning unfolds in the sky. The form these entities take depends on a series of factors: How much energy is there? What resources are available? How much material is carried? What is the space or gap for them to spread and fill? What is the potential energy difference between the starting point and the endpoint? Air pressure, temperature, stress, material strength, toughness, and so on, these factors act like invisible molds, shaping the forms of the world.
Research: Fractal Wood Burning, also known as Lichtenberg Wood Burning or Lichtenberg Figure, is an art and technique that uses high-voltage electricity to burn out complex, fractal patterns on the surface of wood. The principle is to use high-voltage electricity to flow through the moist surface of the wood, where the current follows the path of lower resistance, burning out patterns.
Experiment: We use a modified car battery for power supply and mix baking soda with cola to create a conductive solution to enhance its conductivity. This has enabled the burning of lightning patterns on wood.
Procedure: Collect a batch of tree and vine roots and burn out Lichtenberg patterns on the roots with lightning textures.
Place aluminum ant nest pouring sculptures, radial coral reefs, and root-developed aquatic plants cultivated in glass containers on the roots.
Additionally, create a series of flat wooden board paintings made by burning and Chinese painting fan surfaces made by blowing pigments.
