Background:

Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen captured the world's first X-ray photograph, which depicted his wife's hand, revealing the intricate details of her bones and even her ring. Since then, X-rays have captivated the attention of artists: Black-and-white inverted images have gained wide popularity.

Concept: we use X-rays as a technique to reveal a different conceptual aspect of objects. A regular sand table becomes a map with texts when viewed through X-ray images.

The sand table is built upon a solid wooden base and contains various materials like plaster, mineral crystals, metal powder, natural sponges, polystyrene foam boards, and everlasting moss. Inside, we embed materials that retain visible marks in X-ray images, such as metal wires in the shape of letters, metal threads, tin foil, and metal powders.
