On the west corridor, there hangs a collection of 10 works titled “AWhite Steed Flits Past a Gap.” It is inspired by the traditional Chinese toy, the spinning lantern (Zoumadeng). Instead of being powered by hot air, the mechanism is driven by a motor. The two layers of text inside the lantern rotate at different rhythms, turning time into something tangible. As night falls, the inner layer of poetry appears and disappears intermittently. The lantern glows with a warm, yellowish hue; the text is hazy; and the poetry flows gently.
