The 72 Pentads of Wandering
Tour of Lakes and Rivers
Through the smart use of painting, motor rotation, and temperature sensitive materials, these two artworks reveal text, poetry, and painting, which originally appeared to be purely abstract paintings. As the temperature of the work gradually dissipates, the clear images gradually fade away, andit goes round and round again. The "72 Pentads" is an ancient Chinese calendar system used to guide agricultural activities. It is based on the geography, climate, and natural phenomena in the area of the Yellow River. Each pentad lasts five days; three pentads make up a solar term; six solar terms form a season; and four seasons make a year. The "24 Solar Terms" of the calendar consist of 72 pentads in total. The sequential changes in these pentads reflect the general phenological and climatic changes throughout the year.
The artwork "Tour of Lakes and Rivers" uses the theme of "river and water," featuring boats, street vendors, pavilions, and towers.Accompanied by texts and poems related to "water,"the ancient charm of watery place gradually appears and fades in and out of view.
