Biography

A working public profile

Qiu Zhijie is an artist, curator, writer, and educator whose practice moves across calligraphy, ink painting, photography, video, installation, mapping, theater, social practice, exhibition-making, and art education.

Born in Fujian in 1969 and trained in printmaking at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Qiu has built a practice in which writing, images, public events, research systems, and teaching methods continually transform one another.

Artist

His major long-term projects include 《南京长江大桥计划》, 《邱注上元灯彩计划》, 《世界地图计划》, 《日常书写计划》, and 《演讲表演计划》. Across these bodies of work, individual media categories overlap: a single project may contain installation, drawing, calligraphy, photography, video, performance, field research, and public pedagogy.

Curator and writer

Qiu has also been a major organizer of experimental art, video art, curatorial research, and technology-art discourse in China. His public work includes exhibition-making, theoretical writing, and institution-building, with books and essays around image culture, total art, experimentalism, and contemporary artistic method.

Educator

As an educator, Qiu has developed the Total Art teaching framework and has led experimental art, technology-art, and social aesthetic education initiatives.
