Long March: Left/Right, 2002, Photos of Performance
As one of the curators of “Long March - A Walking Visual Display”, in 2001 Qiu Zhijie was wearing a special pair of shoes throughout the months of traveling. The word “right” was inscribed on the left sole, and the word “left” was inscribed on the right sole. As a result he left the words "left" and "right" in the sole prints along with the footsteps. Though most of the time they do not appear and only exist in an unconscious state. When it rained or when he was walking through muddy ground, the shoe prints became visible and were recorded by the accompanying photographer. In August 2002, Qiu Zhijie carried out a performance on Luding Bridge wearing these shoes, consciously leaving the footprints behind.
